My Thoughts on HOW Conor's Leg Broke! (Where does Conor go from here?)

I think by now Most believe it's Accumulation of Stress to Leg but then one cannot negate Connor's kicks against Dustin's knee (+ ok Maybe Poirier didnt Check Connor's Kicks in the Traditional/Classical-Sense of Checking-A-kick; however, I believe tht Poirier did Check/Block Connor's kicks with the knee enuff to Negate Connor Kicks inflicting Any damage to him + enuff to inflict + Add More Accumulative-damage 2-Connor's Alrdy Stressed/Damaged-Leg) + then I also believe the Connor's Kick tht almost Caught Poirier's Elbow is another Example of Cumulative-Stress to tht Leg-bone.... Honestly, I mean if We are TLking-Abt Accumulative-Stress then surely Every-time tht Connor's kick didnt inflict Any Damage to Poirier + Struck Hard + Bony-Prts (Knee + Elbow) of Dustin this wld wld Undoubtedly Add to Accumulated-Stress of tht Particular Bone.... All I'm Saying is tht one cnt discount thse Moments in the Fight as Adding to Damage + Stress on Bone which U + Many seem to be doing

@Beeker He's still only in his early 30s and he's very skilled, but there are too many things going against him: he's too rich for his own good, where MMA's concerned (Conor likely has more money than all other MMA at the UFC combined). When you're that rich, you gonna do serious sparring against elite guys of the various skills; or are you gonna have mostly "Sir, yeah, Sir!" guys around you? Second and most important: Conor's skill is relatively one-dimensional. His left hand is likely better than any other fighter currently at the UFC, regardless of division. But that alone isn't enough to win championships these days, against most Top 5 guys who are MULTI-talented. Their pure striking may be only about 90% of 95% Conor's pure striking ability... but they also are elite in wrestling, BJJ, Muay Thai, etc. Conor walks into the octagon with ONE plan in mind: I'm gonna KO that man. Okay, that sounds great, if you could do it. But supposed you don't, because there are so many variables involved and from one micro second to the next, ANY thing could happen and you're not really in control more than 50% of the space in that octagon? THAT is Conor's problem. Ngannou used to have just that single "I'm gonna KO that man" plan in mind. It didn't work out too well against fighters who're more well rounded. Ngannous could still do KO with one punch; but he went on to learn other aspects of the game: wrestling, TDD, BJJ, boxing, etc. Again, are you gonna spend HOURS every day learning other things, if you're as rich as Conor? Likely not. The guy was great 5-8 years ago, when he could win belts at 145 and at 155. Today, people like Poirier, Oliveira, Islam and others easily beat him.... both standing and on the mat...

@Beeker to be honest your multiple replies along this thread just looks like you are defending him. Regards his trashtalk it used to be funny. Now it's just desperate. Seems like he is trying to convince himself more than anything. Also trashtalk is acceptable to gain media attention but there are certain liens you don't cross. Family religion etc are things people hold dear. It is quite simply not acceptable to insult others like that. On the subject of his fighting ability i just dont think he was ever that good in the first place. I've been saying this literally since the Alvarez fight and everyone i knew laughed at me. But now... He's just a character and a face. One of the most overhyped and overrated fighters in the history of combat sports.

@M.H.B Why would you say that? I can't stand how he talked about Dustin and Khabib's wife. Also, his trash talk has become very cringey. As far as his fighting ability, I think he has actually gotten better. The problem is that Dustin has gotten a lot better over the years since there first fight.

Does anyone think it's a good idea for Conor to move back to feather? In a previous video, the Weasel talked about how he hasn't gotten many (if any?) KOs at lightweight. I'm not sure if he could still cut to 145 but I think he'd do better there than coming back as a LW.

I think the assessment of the leg is spot on. I also think your assessment of conors status if also fairly accurate but I have a little more belief in Conor. I think he has the talent and will to catch up again these losses may or may not be the catalyst but I think Conor could still beat anyone in the division. The only thing is he has to execute perfectly where the other guys since they’re a bit more well rounded they can fight more off the cuff and rely on instinct because they are so well rounded. It reminds me of adesanya vs jan. I think adesanya could beat Jan but he would have to execute his game plan perfectly and defend perfectly which is just not going to happen more times than it’s not.

it's interesting how his lack of action and true fighting is what did him in, a lot of people saw it coming, but i refused to beleive it. Conor needs to fight Nate next. That’ll be potentially the biggest UFC ppv ever.(buy rate wise) Dana can’t afford for one or both of them to go into the trilogy with 3 straight losses. Right now that fight still sells big time. It’s also Conor’s best matchup. No weight cut, no leg kicks or takedowns from Nate(maybe in the clinch but not in the open), it’s gonna be a boxing match where Conor can throw kicks. If Conor wins it buys him 2 more fights and the UFC 2 more big ppv.

I rewatched the fight. It doesn’t look like a lot of the elbows and ground shots landed on Connor when they was in the ground. Dustin clearly won the round due to control. But it does appear Connor blocked the bulk of the big shots on the ground. Anyone else see this? No dog in the fight but looking at it objectively don’t t know if you can say he was smashed in the ground.

Look at Connor's Ankle at 2:35 It looks like there is a weird ring under the ankle before the break, it could be just the angle of the pic but it looks very strange. I think his foot went numb like the Jimmy Crute who was stopped fighting Anthony smith a few months ago. Connor took a few low leg kicks, as well as kicked Dustin in the Knee (bad spot to land leg kick) and just had nerve damage so badly that he didn't even feel it break. He was still talking and acting like it was nothing after the fight so my guess is his nerves in his legs were gone just like Jimmy Crute this is why he didn't seem to be in as much pain as he should have been.

I don't think his biggest weapon (left hand) will have the same kind of impact in his game. In order to generate that kinda power , he used to put good amount of pressure on his left leg. Now with a broken shin, I don't know. I mean it broke just after he threw a left hand.

The training camp theory definitely could have some legs behind it, however there is one kick in the fight just 1-2 second before the check elbow/not check elbow kick where Conor kicks Poirier's hip and you can see the shin bone break and bend around Poirier's hip zoomed in frame by frame. That was the kick that did it, whether the damage was done in training or not.

Let’s be totally honest here. How can anyone - honestly - count a leg break in a fight as a loss? You win in MMA by KOing your opponent, submitting them or when the fight ends the judges score it to you. Both McGregor and Poirier looked fantastic in there. Watch the fight again. The optics of Poirier on top is enough to sway opinion, particularly if you don’t like McGregor, but put your biases aside and recognize that a lot of shots by Poirier were missed. There was no bruising or cuts or marks on McGregor. And Conor landed his most devastating blows of the round on Poirier off his back! Not to mention a guillotine and two subsequent submission attempts. These narratives about McGregor are insane. We’re not clairvoyants. Our biases inform our views when we say things like “I see this happening” or “I see that happening.” You don’t see anything happening. Chandler / Oliveira. Rd 1. Judges scored two 10-8s to Chandler over Charlie Olives. Charlie Olives then KO’s Chandler in Rd 2 to win the belt. These media/pundit narratives are irrational in the extreme. The problem here is that there are too many variables in the sport, but people look for easy answers that they’re comfortable with.

My honest opinion, Conor could definitely still become the lightweight champion - potentially. Will it happen? I don't think so. What Conor has lost is the mindset he had back in the days. Before the Mayweather fight he didn't have the ego that he has now. Will he get his old supersharp mindset back? Very unlikely. The Conor now tries to force everything, the former Conor was very spontaneous, very intuitive, fast and light on his feet. I guess the McGregor show is over. I pray for Conor that he finds peace of mind.
